Baked Italian Subs

Hot, cheesy, loaded Italian subs fresh outta the oven! Who wants some?!?! You definitely do. These subs are sooo delicious, stuffed with so many flavors and baked to perfection. Easy to make, bake and enjoy!

Here's how we assemble. First, bread. I went with some hoagie rolls. I also tried this recipe out on some gluten free rolls and it was still so good! So, these can definitely be made gluten free if needed! Next, condiments. Spread some mustard on both sides of the bread. Add some banana peppers, roasted red peppers, and thinly sliced red onion. Then, the meat! Prosciutto, capocollo, and soppressata. Next, cheese. I used provolone AND shredded mozzerella.. because why not?? Melts beautifully, adds creaminess.. yes, please.

Alright, now that you're drooling over these pictures.. go make these!

Baked Italian Subs

A very rustic recipe :)

4 hoagie rolls, sliced length wise but keeping back side in tact

a shmear of stone ground or spicy mustard

banana peppers and/or pepperoncini, as much as you like per sandwich

roasted red peppers, as much as you like per sandwich

1/4 of a red onion, thinly sliced, as much as you like per sandwich

1/2 lb Prosciutto, thinly sliced

1/2 lb Soppressata, thinly sliced

1/2 lb Capocollo, thinly sliced

1/4 - 1/2 lb Provolone cheese, thinly sliced

A good handful of shredded mozzarella cheese per sandwich

2 tablespoons butter

3-4 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano + more for garnish

pinch of red pepper flakes for garnish

or sprinkle some Ting's Perfect Pasta Seasoning

optional: lettuce and tomato for serving

1. Preheat the oven to 375F degrees. Slice your bread lengthwise, leaving the back side in tact. Spread mustard on both sides of the inside of bread. Add banana peppers, roasted red peppers and onion. Add 3-4 slices of each meat per each sandwich, in layers: prosciutto, capocollo, soppressata. Add more if needed. As seen in pictures above, I layer it flat to make a taco shape. You can also fold the meats and place them in folded. Add provolone slices and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese. Place the sandwiches into a large baking dish with the cut/stuffed side up.

2. Melt the butter. Add minced garlic and dried oregano to the melted butter. Brush and/or pour over the sandwiches and on the bread. Bake for 20 minutes or until cheese is melted. Garnish with more dried oregano and red pepper flakes. Add lettuce and tomatoes, if you're into that. Enjoy!
